CLOSER TOGETHER
Jesus prayed, 'may they be one, so that the world will believe that you sent me'. (John 17: 21)
The Anglican and Methodist churches of Higham-on-the-Hill have been cooperating for many years through joint worship and other activities. This has been of great benefit to both churches.
We wish to continue and extend this cooperation in the light of the Covenant entered into by our churches at national level in 2003. This was an agreed statement signed by the two Anglican Archbishops and the Methodist president and Vice-President.
The Covenant includes the following affirmations:
- That in both churches the Word of God is authentically preached and the sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist are duly celebrated.
- That one another's ordained and lay ministries are given by God as instruments of God's grace, to build up the people of God in faith, hope and love.
The Covenant commits us, as a priority, to work to overcome the remaining obstacles to the organic unity of the two churches, nationally and locally.
We now wish to publicly endorse the Covenant and decalre our intention to apply it to our mission in Higham-on-the-Hill.
Signed by the clergy and a lay representative from each church
